The sauna is more than just a hot room in Finland. It’s a space for reflection, cleansing, and connection. In Ruka, summer invites you to experience this tradition in harmony with nature—by the lake, under the sun, and in good company.
Traditional Sauna, the Finnish Way
During our Summer Sauna Tour, you’ll discover what makes this experience so unique. A local host will guide you through the steps, from warming up in the heat to cooling off in the lake. You’ll learn how to use a birch whisk (vihta) and why silence plays such an important role.
In addition, the rhythm of hot and cold—heat from the sauna, freshness from the water—helps release stress and improves circulation. Between each round, you can relax outside, breathe deeply, and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Sauna Yoga and Mindful Movement
If you’re looking for a deeper sense of balance, try Sauna Yoga®. This slow, guided practice takes place inside the warm sauna room. You’ll stretch, breathe, and move gently, allowing the heat to soften your body and calm your thoughts.
The session focuses on presence and inner awareness. As a result, you’ll feel relaxed, lighter, and more grounded—physically and mentally. It’s a great way to unwind, whether you’re new to yoga or already familiar with it.
Both activities are suitable for all levels and include everything you need: towels, water, and guidance. You just need to arrive, slow down, and enjoy the moment.
Local life in Ruka is peaceful, connected to nature, and rich in tradition. Through sauna and mindful practices, you can experience that lifestyle for yourself. Take the time to pause, breathe, and feel what it’s like to truly be present.
